How to Handle Stress With School :)

Homework from Science class, a project for History, an essay for English, studying for a test in math, practicing for a sports meet, and doing chores at home. These are all examples of things students are anxious about and put a lot of time and effort into. As middle schoolers, we are often stressed, but not everyone understands the importance of dealing with that stress in a positive manner, as it results in the best outcome for everyone.

Stress can be both good and bad, and it just depends on when it is happening and what the causes and effects of it are. If stress comes before an event, then it is usually positive stress, as it motivates you to do something well and prepare, rather than have the event ignored and being unprepared when it comes up. Negative stress, however, comes after an event is done, because nothing can be done about it because it has already happened, but people are still nervous and anxious about it, therefore, it results in negative stress. An example would be a competition, or sports meet. Positive stress would be the time you are worried for the competition to happen, so you train for it and practice for it, so that you can excel in it once the time comes. Negative stress would come after the competition, when you are waiting for the results and rethink the situation to analyze if you did good or bad.

So, now that we’ve covered what stress is, what are some ways to cope with it? Well, to start off, it is immensely important to have good time management skills and be organized in order to get everything done on time, and have efficient and excellent work. Especially since we are experiencing the pandemic, and many of us are remote, these skills are vital for us and will prepare us students for further obstacles that we may face in the future as well. Being a remote student, we have an extra responsibility, which is to be prepared and enforce our own rules on ourselves, and to keep ourselves on track because our teachers aren’t right in front of us to ensure we have a good learning experience. To do that, we can make sure that everything we need for our classes are in front of us or at least accessible prior to the beginning of the class. If you don’t have a supply you need, make sure to get it, or reach out to someone to help you get it, so that you are prepared for class and meet your needs to excel in your expectations. Additionally, you should take notes in class where it is needed, like in History if you need to jot down some major names, places, or events and when they happened, so that you can refer back to it when studying for a test, project, or any other assignment which may need some formerly learned knowledge for it. Furthermore, you need to make sure that you have good time management skills if you are expecting to be successful in school and life. The main thing about time management is to not procrastinate your work and get it done quickly, rather than waiting for the last minute, in which case the work wouldn’t even be done in the best manner possible. You should also be able to prioritize your responsibilities and tasks to make sure that the most important things are done first, and the more frivolous matters are settled later. Finally, to help you do this all, you can create a schedule, or a time table. In this schedule, you can include times matched with their respective activities to keep track of what you have to do, and how much time you have to complete each one.

In conclusion, it can be stressful and demanding to be in school and be expected to have everything done on time with great quality, there are always ways to cope with it in order to ensure a successful future for yourself.
