I’m almost 12. I’m a Canadian born Pakistani US citizen, and an average student. A skinny twig, and in love with Starbucks. I love my religion because it conveys the message of peace, and also teaches that everyone is equal. I was born and raised a Muslim, (A Muslim is someone who is apart of Islam.) and I’d like to share with you all what my religion means to me.
I’m Muslim, and this is a short list of what Islam means to me, and what I’ve learned throughout: 1. Wishing peace upon every other muslim I meet when I say, “Assalam o Alaikum”- which means “May peace be with/upon you.”
2. Taking a portion of your earnings and donating it to the poor and needy, also known as Zakat.
3. We respect the prophets Moses, Jesus, Abraham, Noah, and all the other prophets as well (Peace Be Upon Them All)
4. Waiting every year for Eid. Praying with 100+ people at the mosque, and getting hugs and gifts from people I haven’t talked to all year.
5. Realizing how brave my mom is for wearing a hijab everytime she leaves the house for 20+ years.
- What the womam is wearing on her head in the picture is called a Hijab.
6. Praying 5 times a day, Fajr (Before sunrise), Zuhr (In The Afternoon), Asr (In The Evening), Maghrib (At Sunset), and Isha (In The Night).
7. Heaven AND Hell aren’t reserved for only one group of people, that wouldn’t make any sense.
8. The 5 Pillars of Islam Are a Very Important note in Islam. Faith in god, Prayer, Zakat (Donating To The poor and needy), Fasting, And Pilgrimage (Hajj).
9. Muslims need to interact more with Non-Muslims. We’re all human. No one can say for sure what will happen after we pass away. As far as I know no one has come back and told us about how nice heaven is or how bad hell is. So while we’re here, let’s get to know each other and have a good time.
10. You can never turn your back on someone who needs help. Many prophets in the world helped the people around them. “People” meaning anyone, doesn’t matter their race, religion, or gender.
This list is a way for me to express my thoughts and feelings about Islam in the world we live in today. I know, this isn't the best list of what my religion means to me, but regardless of what people say, love always beats hate. It might take a long time, but in the end it’ll always win.
